Omi Old Merchant Town
Gokasho (五個荘) is one of the great Edo Style Town that has many traditional houses. It is located in Higashiome, Shiga Prefecture. Because of the beautiful scenery with many traditional houses, it is registered as the Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It is known as the birthplace of Omi Merchant. There are great Omi Merchant Houses are remaining here and 3 of them are opened for public. The scenery of this town is so quiet and beautiful with the sound of canals. It's a harmony of the scenery and the sound of water.
