Detailed Travel Guide

Ariji House
Hojin no Ie (House of the border guard) is located in Mogami Town, Yamagata Prefecture. This historic house, where many notables stayed in the past, including the famed haiku poet, Matsuo Basho, is now open to the public. A good example of traditional architecture.

This house was owned by Aiji family who was the mayor of Sakaida Village for many years. This house has the feature of the government office in this village. Because it is located on the border of Yamagata and Miyagi, the guard also stayed at this house.
