Mt. Ishigaki One Night Castle

Mt. Ishigaki One Night Castle (石垣山一夜城) was built in 1590 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the battle of Odawara Castle. The Castle was built on Mt. Ishigaki (257m high) and has a great view of Odawara area and Sagami Bay including Odawara Castle. This castle was called one night castle because Hideyoshi silently built this castle during the battle, and one night when the construction of the castle was finished, he ordered to cut down all the trees to let the castle see from Odawara Castle. For the soldiers of Odawara Castle, the castle was suddenly appeared in just one night.

Mt. Ishigaki One Night Castle

This castle was built for only attacking Hojo clan and Odawara Castle. However, Hideyoshi, built this castle with lots of Ishigaki, the stone walls, Tenshu, the huge well for long term battle. Mt. Ishigaki was the first castle which used Ishigaki in Kanto Area. Hideyosh spend 80 days with 40,000 men to built this castle and set his headquarter. His strategy of the attacking Odawara Castle was completely surrounded and lead the internal collapse of Hojo and his soldiers. This interesting approach of Mt. Ishigaki Castle deadened the motivation of Hojo's
soldiers.

Hideyoshi stayed about 100 days in this castle. He brought one of his wife Yodo, and let all other samurai bring their wife at this battle field, too.

The Stone walls were Nozurazumi Style built by Anou People. They still remain in great condition even under the several times of huge earthquakes.
