Tatsuta Nature Park

Travel Information

Tatsuta Nature Park (立田自然公園, tatsuta shizen koen) is a ruins of Taishoji temple which was established for Hosokawa clan. The graves of successive lords of Hosokawa clan and Madame Gracia, who dedicated her whole life to the preaching of Christianity as well as the memorial monument of the great swords master Miyamoto Musashi are located here. The park is a Japanese style garden with many beautiful nature and tea houses.

There is parking and restroom.
Open: 8:30 to 17:00 (last entry 16:40)
Admission: 200 yen, 100 for under junior.
THere is a group discount from 30 people.

Access
0. at Kumamoto Station.
1. use local bus to Tatsutashizenkoeniriguchi.
2. walk (10 min.)

Tatsuta Nature Park
Koshoken Tea House
Tadaoki, 2nd lord of Hosokawa, was also tea master who studied tea from Sennorikyu. This tea house was reconstructed from the actual blueprint.

Four graves of lords of Hosokawa and their wives.
There are grave of Yusai, the first lord of Hosokawa, and his wife, Tadaoki and his wife Gracia.

The stone water mirror and cap of Gracia were moved here from Osaka castle.

Memorial Monument of Miyamoto Musashi
No body knows who named this. It is the Gorin Tower.
