Uwajima Castle

Travel Information

Uwajima Castle (宇和島城) is one of 12 existed original castles built in 1666. It is a hilltop castle located in Uwajima, Ehime. It is located on the top of 80m tall mountain. The structure of Uwajima Castle was designed by Todo Takatora. Tenshu and beautiful nature preserved for over 300 years. There are historical buildings that removed to Uwajima castle. It is registered as the national historical site.

There are parking and restroom.
Admission: 200 yen for adults, 100 yen for kids.
Time for Tenshu: 9:00 to 17:00 (Apr. to Sep) 16:00 for other.
The castle: 6:00 to 18:30 (Apr. to Sep) 17:00 for other.

Uwajima Castle

Type: Hilltop.
Built in: 941 by Tachibana.
Class: Existed Original Castle

Uwajima Castle was built by Todo Takatora, who is one of Sengoku Daimyo and considered as the master of designing castle. He extended the former castle.

Current Tenshu was reconstructed by Date Munetoshi in 1666.

-Hanro Koori Nagayamon Gate-
Original Samurai Gate removed to Uwajima castle.

-Yamasato Storage-
Built in 1845. It was used for the storage for weapons. It displays craft museum.

-Noboritachimon Gate-
Oldest building in Uwajima Castle.

-Tenshu-kaku-
Reconstructed in 1666. It is 3 layers 3 stories building constructed by Uwajima Date clan.
