Hiking Magome Hiking (馬籠峠ハイキング) is one of the most popular forms of tourism in Japan. It starts from Tsumago-juku which is one of the best Samurai Style towns. This trail is located on the path of Nakasendo Road that connected Kyoto and Edo since the Edo period. Many famous Samurai walked this trail. It finishes at Magome-juku which is another beautiful post town. You can enjoy trekking with a beautiful view of Japanese nature and history.

Tsumago Juku (妻籠宿) is the major tourist spot in Kiso and southern Nagano prefecture. It is a Edo Style town with over 65 Edo Style houses on one street. Tsumago Juku used to be one of the post towns on Nakasendo Road. Therefore, many travelers between Edo and Osaka visited. Tsumago Juku is the first registered scenery of historic districts because many houses built in Edo Period remained in great condition. When you walk on the main street, you will only see the Edo-style houses.

Otsumago (大妻籠) is a small post town located between Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku. There are many traditional houses that show the time of Edo period. Some of the houses are over 300 years old. Traditional Hotels of post town are still serving travelers.

Tateba Tea House (立場茶屋) is located between Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku. This house was constructed in the late Edo period (19th century). For many years, this house has been used for resting place and even today.

Magome Juku (馬籠宿) is a old post town of nakasendo road located Nakatsugawa, Gifu. It was the 43rd post town from Edo. This post town remains and reconstructed the old look of Edo style post town, and is one of the popular tourist spots in Gifu, today. The houses are built in Edo style and the stone road are remains from the Edo period. There are lots of gift shops, food stands, museums and even hotels.
