Floating on the Kitan straits of Seto-naikai National Park are Okinoshima, Jinoshima, Torajima, and Kamijima. Collectively these islands are known as "Tomogashima." These islands are a treasure chest of green fields, lush forests, fascinating insects, plants and animals, as well as rare rock formations. For the Meiji Period until the end of World War II the island served as an important military base and even today you can see the remains of old bunkers and powder magazines scattered over the islands. Anyone who visits these sites may feel as if they have slipped back in time. Viewing the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea from one of the white, western style lighthouses is sure to lighten the heart of even the most downtrodden spirit.
