Rakushisya (落柿舎) is a Japanese garden with concept of Wabi located in Sagano, Kyoto. This house and garden were built by Kyorai, the student of Matsuo Basyo in the mid 17th century. Matsuo Basyo stayed at this house many times. The garden of this house has all kinds of seasonable flowers for writing "Haiku." There is the famous Shishiodosi in Kyoto.

Admission: 200 yen.
Open: 9:00 to 17:00 (10:00 to 16:00 in Jan. and Feb.)

Rakushisya

Rakushisya was the house of Mukai Kyorai, the student of Matsuo Basyo. It was built before 1687. Matsuo Basyo visited first time here in 1689, and he stayed here two more times. He wrote Saga Journal at this house.

Current House was constructed in 1770. Today, there is another house was constructed and Haiku party is held often. Therefore, the garden has all kinds of Seasonable flowers for Haiku.

Rakushisya literary means the house of dropping Kaki, Japanese persimmons. Kyorai wrote a poem about Kaki and Arashiyama when a storm dropped all Kaki, he could see Arashiyama beautifully.
