Raiden Shrine

Travel Information

Raiden Shrine (雷神神社) is one of the oldest shrine located in Itakura, Gunma prefecture. It was established in 598 and enshrines the gods of thunder. It was highly respected by Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. The main shrine was constructed in 1835 and has a great carving arts.

There are parking and restroom.

Access
0. at Maebashi Station.
1. use JR Ryomo Line to Isezaki Station.
2. use Tobu Isezaki Line to Tatebayashi Station.
3. use a local bus to Itakurachoyakubairiguchi.
4. walk 15min.

Raiden Shrine

Raiden Shrine, or Thunder Shrine, was established in 598 by Shotoku Taishi. This area has many thunder disasters and also the flooding problems. Therefore, people built this shrine to save thunder.

The current main building was constructed in 1835 and the upper shrine is constructed in 1868. They have great carving arts on the walls.

Hachiman Shrine is the oldest building in Gunma Prefecture. It was constructed in Muromachi period.
